I previously wrote about this fantastic movie about the Law of Attraction. Now proud to say The Secret has found a home here in The Pharmacy. Check out Rhonda Byrne’s great work here.

Still currently can’t shake The Dark Knight fever. Here’s more multimedia to satisfy your tortured souls, music from the original Nolan Film: Batman Begins, which also form the template for the soundtrack of The Dark Knight. I’ve added these songs to Sound Therapy as well, which you should all check out if you haven’t lately, since the song list has grown quite a ways since I first put it up.

Meanwhile, thanks to Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard, we can all listen and weep!

Barbastella – Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard

I rarely dwell on a movie, but The Dark Knight is simply one of the best I’ve seen in some time. Notwithstanding the dark tone and tragic plot, I love how this movie brings out individual characters and conflicts and meshes them together. Truly a great character piece as much as it is an action movie.

Here are a few snippets from Reelz Channel to give you more details, straight from the the people behind the movie themselves:

Maggie Gyllenhaal

Gary Oldman

Chris Nolan

Christian Bale

The Need For A Symbol July 21, 2008

Those who have seen Chris Nolan’s recent take on the Batman franchise will agree with me on this one: the movie wasn’t about Batman nor was it about the Joker (although both hero and villain were not disappointments to say the least).

The movie was about Harvey Dent.

Yes, Harvey Dent, the young ambitious district attorney of Gotham City who pledges to clean up Gotham’s crime-ridden streets within the bounds of the legal system–something neither Batman nor his ally James Gordon admitted was even possible. The movie begins with Harvey, and ends with Harvey–or at least what Harvey becomes (long-time Batman fans already know this bit of trivia).

The movie has the ingredients of a great tragedy: on the part of Batman, of Gotham, of the Joker, but more than all these sordid stories combined is the tragedy of Harvey Dent–the tragedy of a white knight, a symbol of hope and of righteousness, and how the realities of Gotham or any aspect of human society, can warp and twist such a symbol.

Harvey Dent echoes this pathos in one memorable line:

either you die a hero, or you live long enough to become the villain.

Nietzche has a similar cynical take on this:

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

By the end of the movie, Batman’s last act of heroism isn’t what people expects. This is a heroism not of the direct conventional kind–but of the kind that has deeper implications to society. How important is a symbol that one would have to sacrifice oneself to uphold that symbol? Is a symbol more than man’s action?

Watch The Dark Knight and answer this for yourself.

I saw this movie today and I had a lot of fun with it. Although let me tell you at this point that you should not expect a lot from the story, but really just enjoy the adrenalin rush.

However, thin plot doesn’t mean no relevance and no substance.

At least for me I think this can make a good motivational movie–for people who are looking for direction in their life.

The protagonist, Wesley, is a typical corporate gopher hoplessly mired in mediocrity, until he gets a kick (literally actually) that jumpstarts his self-motivation and finally gets his life moving.

Finding oneself and purpose, but more importantly, actively pursuing it, is for me the best message of this kick-ass film.

(Notwithstanding Angelina Jolie’s fine form).

Without giving anything from the already thin plot away, here are two things I really treasured from this film:

  • The Keyboard Scene
  • “What the fuck have you done lately?”

Get off your ass and watch this movie.

In 1972, the Ivory Snow box featured a picture of a mother and baby. The mother–not the baby as some have claimed–went on to be a porn star: Marilyn Chambers, who starred in the classic Behind the Green Door. It is even said that each of her films features a reference to Ivory Snow…

The Myth of AIDS and HIV May 31, 2008

You’ve heard of AIDS and HIV before, it’s almost a cliche as bad as hunger in Africa.

But do you really know about AIDS? Do you really know enough to protect yourself?

Do you know exactly what you are protecting yourself against?

In the same spirit as Zeitgeist and Esoteric Agenda, both of which I’ve posted in Image Therapy, Gary Null presents a film about the AIDS that people don’t know.

Check out the film under Image Therapy and learn more about the dreaded “epidemic of the modern times”.

Do you still believe any of the following statements?

  • HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.
  • HIV was first contracted in Africa from monkeys.
  • HIV is primarily transmitted through sexual contact with infected partners, secondarily from infected needles, tertiarily from infected mothers to their infants.
  • Irresponsible homosexual males and intravenous drug abusers are at high risk from AIDS, but everyone is at risk from the disease.

If you do, it’s time to revisit what you know. Open your mind to the truth.

After seeing Zeitgeist, I came across another movie in a similar vein: Esoteric Agenda. I’ve posted this along with Zeitgeist in Image Therapy.

These movies make you think about daily life you take for granted: the religion you hear being preached around, the government you pay taxes to, the wars you read about on the newspapers.

You worry about your money, how to pay your bills, how to keep yourself healthy, when in reality bigger things are afoot.

Check these films out to get a second opinion on life.

The Falling Man was an infamous photograph that was suppressed by the US media because of the shocking emotions that it elicted.

I posted this on Image Therapy some time back. A couple of years ago a documentary was made about the story behind the photograph. I’ve also posted this on Image Therapy for your viewing curiosity.

This is dedicated to those who perished on 9/11 and the horrors that have happened since.
